Taka Waka, born on August 6, 1999, was raised in Meguro, Tokyo, where early exposure to skate culture and the urban environment profoundly shaped a developing artistic sensibility. Years of study in Toronto and Los Angeles, together with close engagement with local skaters and artists, nurtured a distinctive style that merges countercultural energy with a refined visual language. Now based in Los Angeles, Taka Waka integrates these experiences into a multidisciplinary practice spanning drawing, painting, photography, and brand creation.Taka Waka’s work is rooted in meticulous pen-and-ink line drawing, interweaving elements of Surrealism and Symbolism. Themes of solitude and psychological conflict are articulated through symbolic motifs, in an exploration of the threshold between dream and reality. The visual language balances the improvisational impulses of street and skate culture with deliberate compositional rigor, striving to stir the viewer’s emotions and imagination.
